Successful Treatment of Travel Acquired Parasites

Blastocystes are single-celled parasites belonging to the category of parasites that includes algae, diatoms, and water molds.

Dr. Wu’s patient came to him after 3 years of debilitating illness initiated by a parasitic blastocyst infection acquired by travel to Honduras. During those 3 years, the patient experiences massive weight gain (30 lbs), stomach pain, fatigue, dizziness, and balance issues. His treatments thus far had been ineffective. Dr. Wu recommended the below formula, and the patient had a complete recovery after 2 months of treatment. His blood markers and symptoms completely normalized within that period.

Wu Mei (Black Plum)

Dr. Wu prescribed Sun Ten’s Wu Mei Wan formula (100g), combined with Da Huang (10g), Chuan Lian Zi (10g), H-zisuye (10g) and Huo Xiang (10g). This combination of herbs was used to treat the patient’s symptoms specifically, as well as because it had become a chronic condition. We will detail the formula used for newly acquired parasites later in this article.

The Wu Mei Wan Formula includes the following herbs:

  • Mume fruit (wu mei) - expels parasites, astringes the Intestines and stops diarrhea

  • Sichuan pepper fruit (shan jiao) - makes parasites “drunk” and brings bodily heat down to enable release of parasites

  • Areca seed (bing lang zi) - kills parasites, drains downwards

  • Tang-kuei root (dang gui) - invigorates the blood, moistens the Intestines and unblocks the bowels

  • Prepared aconitum tuber root (fu zi) - restores devastated Yang, restores kidney and spleen Yang

  • Oriental ginseng root (ren shen) - powerful Qi tonic

  • Cinnamon twig (gui zhi) - warms the channels, facilitates flow of Qi and blood

  • Dry ginger root (gan jiang) - warms and expels cold, rescues Yang

  • Coptis root (huang lian) - clears heat, drains dampness and fire

  • Phellodendron bark (huang bo) - drains damp heat and fire

In addition to the above formula, Dr. Wu added these herbs based on the symptoms the patient was experiencing:

  • Da Huang (10g) - drains Heat and purges accumulations

  • Chuan Lian Zi (10g) - kills parasites and stops pain

  • H-zisuye (10g) - releases the Exterior and disperses Cold, alleviates nausea, vomiting

  • Huo Xiang (10g) - transforms Dampness, releases the Exterior and dispels turbidity, stops vomiting

In the case of a newly-acquired infection (parasitic or otherwise), Dr. Wu recommends the herb Shi Jun Zhi (Fructus Quisqualis, or Rangoon Creeper Fruit with Seeds). This herb strengthens the spleen, dissolves accumulations and improves digestion. In his hometown, every family grows this herb as it is used so commonly.
